Promoting Content is an Important Part of Increasing Traffic

Writing original content is vital for designing a successful website or blog. New content must be added on a regular basis to keep it active. If a site is neglected, PR ranking and traffic will be lost and hard to get back.

One thing to remember: writing and posting the content is only part of the work involved in promoting a website. The content itself needs to be promoted.

10 Tips to Promote Content for Free

  • Start a Newsletter. A mailing list is extremely helpful. It allows the owner of the list to send out weekly or monthly updates about website, specials and new content. It also keeps business owners in touch with their readers and clients. Note: Only including partial articles in the newsletter will encourage readers to keep reading the piece on site. They may wind up reading more than the article that got them there!
  • Tweet about it. Twitter is growing in popularity every day. Business owners, bloggers and webmasters should jump on this lucrative social networking bandwagon while they have the chance. Who knows what the next “in thing” will be! Read more about promoting on Twitter here.
  • Digg It and Others like it. These types of sites are designed to get the word out about new and top notch content. Joining these free sites and using them to promote content is a must for getting the word out about a website and it’s content. A few of the good ones are; digg.com, plurk.com, buzz.yahoo.com, delicious.com, reddit.com and stumbleupon.com.
  • Facebook. Another great place to network and connect with other business owners is to have a facebook account. It should be used for more than just connecting with old highschool friends. Using it to connect with others in business is very savvy. Starting a fan page is also a great way to get the word out about new content. Posting regular updates on facebook will bring in more traffic and new readers.
  • Submit Content to Article Directories. It is important to have a good authors box with 1-2 links back to writers websites. After 30 days, sending original content to article directories, makes it available for others in the same niche. It is a great tool to get free back links.
  • Install Social Plug Ins. WordPress is by far the best blogging platform in this writers opinion. They have fabulous plug ins to help readers promote what they read. Every blog owner should have social links in the footer of their articles. It gives readers the ability to tweet about great posts they read, or at the very least give it a thumbs up on sites like digg!
  • SEO. Always make sure articles have good titles, meta tags, h1 & h2 headings, proper key word usage and tags. This helps search engines promote the articles, and index them properly so potential readers can find them! Proper SEO is a vital key for increasing traffic. Tip for WordPress Bloggers: Install All In one SEO plug in.
  • Encourage and Respond to Comments. If an article receives a comment, respond to the comment. Encouraging conversation is the site owners job. Asking colleagues and friends to read and comment on articles is a great way to get conversations going. If a site is intriguing to readers they will come back, tell their friends and maybe even post about it on their site/blog!
  • Link to Articles. Visit other blogs and leave NON spam comments. Instead of linking back to home page of site, linking to actual articles on site will help get the word out about the content. This is also a great tip for forum signatures. Using the title of article with link is also a good way to intrigue potential readers and make them want to click and follow.
  • Guest Blog. Being a guest blogger is another free way to promote a website. In the authors box can be a couple links back to articles that are popular or new. Guest blogging for website with high ranking and same niche is the key to making the most of this tip.

Promoting a website is an ongoing task. There are no “quick fixes” to increase traffic. It takes hard work and determination to create popular websites.

Sponsored Reviews

I am always looking for ways to make some extra cash. One way that I have found is with SponsoredReviews.com. It is a company that provides bloggers with an opportunity to review websites and products for cash. You bid on projects or advertisers find you and make an offer.
Blog Advertising - Advertise on blogs with SponsoredReviews.com

You see all the requirements up front. For example, some advertisers only want certain PR, or a minimum number of words for review. All requirements are mentioned up front…including due date. No surprises.

Sponsored reviews is also great for companies that want to be reviewed. They set the amount they are willing to pay for a review and all other details. They approve or disapprove and receive the review with a back link and review of their site.

I joined sponsored reviews in late 2007. I only do what I know I can review ethically and things I am willing to endorse. I choose. Plus, I need to have the TIME. LOL.

In 2007 I made: $67.75

In 2008 I made: $323.05

And, so far this year I have made: $52.00

Sure, it’s not a ton of cash, but in my experience, they DO pay and any cash at this point is a good thing!

So, if you have a blog, like to write…or are willing to write, Sponsored Reviews may be just the option for you to earn a few extra bucks!

Should Your Business Have a Blog

Blogging has become extremely popular in this modern society. We have even advanced to vblogging (video blogs). The questions is: should your business have a blog? The answer to this questions is simple. Yes, I think that all businesses that have a website should have a blog as well.

Why Every Business with a Website Should have a Blog

Update Customers. A blog gives you the opportunity to let your customers know what is going on. You can tell them and visitors to your website about new products, upcoming sales and events, and much more. It is a great tool for any business, and in most cases free with cpanel hosting. Or definitely free through Blogger. However, keep in mind that it is best to have it on your own domain. Or, at the very least a redirect.

Build Traffic. Many people who obtain a website for their business think traffic is just going to come. Unfortunately, that is not true. Traffic is a fickle thing and requires patience, time, and the addition of good quality content on a regular basis. What better way to add content then with a blog? You can use it as a venue to write about your niche, product, targeted audience, etc.

Get Search Engine Attention. For some reason, blogs get crawled more and traffic just flows better to them. I know this first hand. I have actually transferred all of my websites from a CSS format to WordPress (self hosted). Since I did this, all of my sites are doing much better traffic wise. WordPress is a blogging platform that allows you to have all the benefits of a blog and and a website all in one.

Build Contacts. The blogging world is a huge and loyal community. If you run a good blog and update regularly, you will begin to have regular readers and people to exchange links with and who will tell others about your site/product. Free advertising.

Reviews. Trade reviews with other bloggers and business owners. You scratch their back and they will scratch yours. Keep it in your niche, but not a direct competitor. Make sure you will be benefiting each other not competing.

As you can see, a blog is a great way for a business to promote itself, stay up to date, get noticed, share with customers, grow more business, gain quality niche traffic and create a steady flow of readerships. You will be doing yourself and your business a favor with a blog.

Make Money with Your Blog

By: Danny Warner

Blogging for cash is a simple concept, but a lot of people seem to be blogging for free. There’s no point in driving traffic to your blog without having some way to profit from all of that traffic. Once you’ve taken the time to research keywords, plan your blog posts and set up your blog, the next step is to add moneymaking elements to your blog.

There are a few basic ways to profit from a blog, or any website for that matter. Banner ads are displayed on the borders of a web page. Each time your page is viewed with the banner ad, you are paid. Normally a banner ad program is paid out at a certain rate per 1000 visitors. Although banner ads are popular or many types of website, there are other more effective means of monetizing your blog. The following technique normally pays better rates than banner ads, and is more worth your time.

Pay-per-click ads are a more effective means of gaining income from a blog. You get paid each time a visitor clicks on an ad displayed on your page. Google Adsense is the most popular pay-per-click ad provider. Google has the largest inventory of ads and also pay the most per click. Additionally, Adsense ads are targeted toward the content that appears on the website. For example, if your blog focuses on small business software, the Adsense ads will be for small business software. The content of the blog determines the ads that appear. This has a major advantage. Because the ads are related to what you reader is reading about, they are more likely to click on the ads, which means that the ads can be very profitable for you.

Signing up with Google Adsense is relatively simple. Since Google took over Blogger.com, they have started to accept accounts from blog owners rather quickly. Plus, if you use Blogger, inserting Google Adsense is extremely simple. It is recommended that you only apply for Adsense after you have at least 500 words posted on your Blog.

Once you’ve set up your account with Adsense make sure to read the “programs policy” section carefully. There are a few things that can get your Adsense account shut down, and Adsense is such a good source of income it would be hard to replace it with something else.

Keep in mind that once you’ve placed the Adsense ads into your blog it will take about 48 hours until the relevant ads appear. After this period of time, if you notice that the ads that are appearing are not relevant to your content you’ll need to do some keyword optimization. Look at your blog posts and titles through the eyes of a search engine spider. Are you using your keywords effectively? How many times do you main keywords appear? Try adding your main keywords at least once per paragraph and make sure to use them in the title of your blog posts as well. This will help increase the relevancy of your ads, which will lead to more clicks and more profits for you.

Designing a Blog for Maximum Effect and Potential

By: David Mclauchlan

Blog is short for the word weblog. A weblog is a journal (or newsletter) that is frequently updated and intended for the consumption of the general public. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site. Blogs can be used in the business world as well. Blogs started in the late 90s and have increased in popularity over the past months. Many people have started to create their personal blogs to express their thoughts and feelings. Internet companies have also started their blogs to inform consumers on the latest product news and reviews.

Blogs are now being used in internet marketing media field. Previously, Internet marketing was done by placing banners and links on popular websites, such as news and information sites. Links were also included on newsletters and marketing letters sent to the members of their mailing lists. Lots of people spend time reading blogs. People read their friend’s blogs, their favorite author’s blogs, blogs on topics that they are interested in, and blogs on product reviews. With the increasing popularity of blogging, it is even feared that people rely on blogs to get the latest news.

Although news reports from blogs may not be reliable, some people look for product reviews through blogs which in some cases is more dependable. While it is true that some media persons are being paid to write good reviews about a certain product, blog writers write about their actual experiences with products and services from a company. Since there are many people who read and start their own blogs, blogs are a good medium to market a product. Increasing blog traffic means an increase in product sales.

Joining affiliate programs and sites which will list your blog under a certain search category or name can increase your blog traffic. You can also have your blog advertised in popular websites. This, however, will cost some money and is not advisable if you have just started blogging. A writer who has just launched his/her blog will want as much traffic as possible to increase advertisements on the site. Also, some advertisers pay every time their link is clicked or the page that has their link is viewed.

When you have increased traffic on your blog, you should try to keep your visitors coming back and recommending your blog to friends and colleagues. This can be done by having informative or amusing content and good blog layout and design. You may develop your blog’s content or you can also acquire the services of a web content writer to provide you with the blog articles.

A blog’s layout and design also plays a big role. While most of the companies offering free blog hosting offer pre-selected templates, there are also some that allows customization that if you utilize this feature correctly can increase your blog’s traffic.

Make your blog stand out from the millions of blogs out by following the guidelines below:

Customize the banner. The banner usually has the most generic designs that are common to the blogs from a blogging company or service. You can personalize this banner by having a graphic with the dimensions of the banner. You can also edit the graphic so that it will also include the title of your blog. In this case, you can create your own graphic or you can purchase professional looking graphics online for less than $10.

Personalize photos. Of course, most of the photos that you will be posting will be your own. However, if you don’t customize the photos before posting them, you may miss maximizing the enhancing benefits graphics can add to the page. Adding photo borders can help the photo stand out from the page. It can also add to the design of your blog. You can choose a standard border or you can also create your own border which can be associated with your blog’s templates.

Add a favicon. Don’t you think sites with icons on the address bar before the website’s URL are cool? Many people do. These favicons add a professional look to the URL. These easy to do using photo or graphic editing softwares.

Include RSS feeds. This is a cool way to inform people with newsreaders about your blog headlines. Tutorials on RSS feeds are available on the internet.

Advertisements. If you have signed-up with Google Ad-Sense, which I am sure you would like to do, make sure that the ads are conveniently placed that these will not hinder your readers’ ease in accessing the information on your blog.

Check out blog templates, layouts, backgrounds, textures and skins from sites. There are sites that offer free blog templates, layouts, backgrounds, textures and skins. You can make use of these so your blog will not look generic like most of the blogs hosted by the service provider.

Audio makes your blog more personal. Not only does audio personalizes the blog; it can also keep your visitors coming back. You can try having streaming radio stations, mp3 file or playlists loading with your blog.

A well designed and run blog is a great internet marketing tool that can increase your product and service exposure and ultimately your sales. Following the ideas above will provide you with a great blog design.

Blogging: It Just Keeps Getting Better

By: Danny Warner

If you don’t quite understand blogging, you’re not alone. Over 62% of Internet users don’t understand the term and don’t know how blogging can dramatically change their lives. But after this article, you’ll be one of those in the know and poised to take advantage of this rapidly growing phenomenon.

Blogging has taken the Internet by storm. By the end of 2004, blogs had established themselves as an important part of Internet culture. In fact, in the same year almost 8 million people were using blogs as a form of self-expression, business building or a combination of the two.

The hype about blogging is well deserved. Blogs aren’t just a fad. Between 2004 and 2005 blog readership was up 58%. 6 million people worldwide use RSS technology to receive updated information from blogs all over the web. The blogosphere (or blog universe) is growing day by day.

Just what are blogs, you ask?
A blog is a shortened term for “weblog.” Either term refers to a website where entries are made similar to a journal or diary. The entries are presented in reverse chronological order, with the newest entry on top. Although blogs were originally used like a personal journal on everyday events, they have evolved into a multipurpose tool. There are blogs on every topic imaginable, from food to politics to celebrity gossip. Generally, blogs combine the text entries with images, links to other blogs and other related media.

Blogs are an accessible website that level the playing field online. No longer do you need to know complicated computer codes and figure out the technical aspects of web pages in order to have content online. Setting up your own blog takes just a few minutes and is completely free. The interface is as simple as using a Word processing program. If you can type, then you can blog.

Blogs offer a unique opportunity. Blogs differ from websites because search engines read them quickly and updated them in the search engine indexes. This means that between a website about a topic and regularly updated blog regarding the same topic, the blog will have the advantage in the search engine rankings. While this may not be as important for bloggers who are using the platform as a personal journal, this aspect is extremely important for those looking to profit from blogs. Using blogging as a tool to attract potential customers often work more quickly and more effectively than other types of websites. This can mean faster and better profits for you.

For people looking to make money online, blogs represent the perfect opportunity. They are easy to update, and extremely user friendly. They reduce the learning curve for having a website online, since they eliminate the need to know web design. Blogs are becoming a bigger part of mainstream culture. Over 32 million Americans read blogs, and are they are looking for helpful information on topics that interest them. They are waiting for new content and new blogs to read. The time has never been better to fill that need with your own money making blog.
